I tackled this issue because our current template was large (5 MB), primarily because the logo was a large bitmap. It printed flawlessly, but I wanted to see if there was a better way (famous last words for a SolidWorks user).

Create a sketch on the plane you want the logo on. Import logo jpeg (tools-Sketch tools-sketch picture) -- scale logo to size required and position in place -- you will have to retrace logo using jpeg as guide -- then cut extrude the sketch from model. check out the colt logo https://grabcad.com/library/colt-m1911-presentation-box-1/files
OK Don't use autotrace create the shapes using splines you will get a nice smooth logo-- the fewr the spline pionts the smoother the curve
Add some decals and trace the picture using spline
Thank you for the help. i did it succesfully by using Autotrace . but the problem now is that the tracing is not that smooth and the logo sketch have too much corners(edges) in it.
How to smooth the tracing.

Do You need to engrave? I mean sometimes decal is enough:

Answered with a tutorial: https://grabcad.com/tutorials/how-to-engrave-a-logo-o-a-part-in-solidworks
the file was solidworks 2013 have added iges and step files
Create or Obtain a DWG file (path line) of the logo using Illustrator. Anybody with basic knowledge can do this easily.
Now in Solidworks, select the plane perpendicular to your logo extrusion.
Go to Insert - DXF/DWG.
Follow the next few steps accordingly. Don't forget to check that 'Convert to solidworks entities' is ticked.
Use Move/scale/rotate to fix the logo at the desired position by selecting the complete logo sketch.
Extrude the sketch on the surface like any other extrusion. It is fairly simple and accurate like this.

Solidworks 2016 upgrade company wide... Application deployment type is set to required.
So within the next couple of weeks we are scheduled to upgrade our Solidworks to version 2016 SP4.0 using SCCM (2012 R2 SP2). I have the application package created and tested and all that is good so no worries there. The total time of the upgrade takes around 20-35 minutes total for the entire process depending on machine type.
What does raise some concern is that since it is going to be a required install, some users might be using the application when SCCM pushes the upgrade to the client machines ( The package will uninstall the previous version and install the upgrade version). Since every one of those users is on a laptop, scheduling it to run at off business hours might not work as expected since those laptops most likely won't be online.
I was thinking to use the required install, but only install when the user is not logged on, but it seems like that's not likely either since they are using their primary machine and they are always logged in. I really can't set it to available, because management wants all users upgraded and not have the option to remain on the previous version. On the other hand I was thinking to set it to install while the user is logged in and have it interact with the user so they can save any work and get some kind of notice 5 minutes prior or something... that hasnt been tested fully though...
Nonetheless, I still have way more testing to do but I was wondering how have you handled upgrades in your environment where you needed to uninstall previous and install updated version? Were there any big gotchas that you learned never to do again?
Thanks in advance.
